Live for a time with the monks. Share in their prayer and work. Help them with various tasks and services. And that in what for most is a new, exciting and fascinating context, against a background of different religions, cultures and languages. As a volunteer one can discover different new worlds and gather many experiences.
Whether as “alternative” service, as a freely donated social service or as a sabbatical period before a new stage in life: there are different forms of voluntary service. Some positions we fill ourselves, others, especially those requiring recognition, in cooperation with the German Association for the Holy Land.
Areas of work and tasks for volunteers at Dormition are: our monastery shop and the cafeteria, house work and garden, administration, reception, and domestic work. If you are interested. please note present openings under “Current.”
The work time for volunteers is usually 40 hours a week on 5 ½ to 6 days. We offer room and full board. In some cases other arrangements can be agreed upon. For many areas of work at least a basic knowledge of English is needed.
As a small community we are dependent on the collaboration of volunteers. At the same time we presume that our volunteers will respect our Benedictine style of life and within the realm of the possible also share in it.
