A Place for Many

Already in the time of Jesus, the northwestern corner of the Sea of Galilee was a place of rest, drawing Jesus, his disciples, and the multitudes to its quiet shores. Jesus ministered to the people, both in body and spirit, healing their wounds and diseases, feeding them, and comforting them. His loving devotion to people is the model we strive to emulate in our monastic family.

People who come to Tabgha often suffer from broken relationships or from the effects of a violent conflict. These include:

  • Permanently disabled children and youth, who were wounded as a result of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
  • Holocaust survivors and people born in concentration camps who now live with physical and mental handicaps.
  • Palestinian children and youth with physical or mental disabilities who have been rejected by their own society.
  • Israeli and Palestinian children who enjoy life in spite of their disabilities and are thrilled to spend a few vacation days in our garden and pool on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

Come with me to a quiet place and get some rest!
(Mark 6:31)

In addition to groups from social institutions throughout the Land, there are many Europeans who also enjoy our facilities, heeding Jesus’ invitation to rest and peace. These include groups from German Bible seminaries, as well as ministrants, students, and young adults, all of whom appreciate the opportunity for simple lodging in a biblically significant location, as well as easy access to other sites of pilgrimage in the area.

Our Meeting Place Beit Noah hosts many different people, much in the same way Noah harbored many in his ark. The possibilities of reconciliation and peace become very real when people from different backgrounds, cultures, religions, and languages, meet at one of the most beautiful spots in the Holy Land.
